The law changed after the Supreme Court ruled that the ban on opposite-sex couples from forming a civil partnership was discriminatory. The Civil Partnership (Opposite-sex Couples) Regulations 2019 came into force on 2 December 2019, and the first opposite-sex civil partnerships were formed on December 31st 2019.
